LESSON 9

Intimacy

What does the word intimacy mean to you?

Many people use the word intimacy when they are referring to sex and, yes, that’s right, it can mean being sexual, but there is so much more to intimacy.

Take Action

After watching the video and hearing about all the different ways two people can be intimate, take a moment to think about:

  • When you hear the word “intimacy,” what feelings, thoughts, or images come to mind?
  • Do you feel closest to a partner through physical intimacy (e.g., kissing, touch), emotional closeness (e.g., sharing feelings), intellectual connection (e.g., deep conversations), or shared experiences (e.g., travel, hobbies)?
  • When it comes to physical or sexual intimacy, do you feel safe expressing your needs, likes, and dislikes?
  • Is there a particular type of intimacy (physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, experiential) that feels missing or underdeveloped in your relationship? What is one small action you could take to start fostering more of this intimacy?
  • Are you mindful of your partner’s needs for intimacy, and do you make an effort to fulfil them? If not, could you make that change?
