LESSON 10

Mindfulness

More and more people are beginning to realise the benefits of mindfulness or meditation, with many now practicing it on a daily basis for better health and wellbeing.

It’s not that easy to do when you first start.  Learning to be still and quieten your mind doesn’t come naturally for those who lead busy lives.

However, it is a practice that is well worth considering, especially when it comes to sex.

Take Action

Consider how mindful you can be when you are sharing intimate moments or having sex, take a moment to think about:

  • When you are with a partner, are you fully aware of the sensations you are experiencing (partner’s touch, the way my skin feels, my breath, the rhythms of movement), or do your thoughts often wander to other things (e.g., self-doubt, worries, to-do lists)?
  • During masturbation, are you aware of the sensations you are experiencing? Do you find it easier to be more aware alone or with a partner?
  • What negative beliefs or anxieties tend to pop up during intimate moments (alone and partnered)? Can you address or quiet them?
  • How might it feel to consciously let go of worries, distractions, or negative self-talk during sex and focus purely on the sensations and connection your experiencing?
