LESSON 1

Understanding Sex

This course is not about making babies and survival of the species, it’s about sex for pleasure. On that note, let’s look at what our understanding of sex is, and think about what sex really means to us.

Take Action

These questions aim to prompt reflection, self-exploration, and critical thinking about sex, intimacy, and pleasure—both on a personal level and within a broader societal context. This lesson talks about letting go of society’s “proper” idea of sex and exploring what works for you.

  • After watching the video and reflecting, has it changed how you think about sex and intimacy?
  • How would you describe “sex” for yourself?
  • Do you agree that sex can mean different things to different people?
  • What kinds of physical or emotional closeness do you enjoy the most (e.g., kissing, cuddling, foreplay, using toys)? Do you think these things should count as sex too?
  • What drives you to have sex or be intimate with someone? Is it about connection, pleasure, validation, or something else?
  • Would you be more open to exploring what feels good for you, beyond what society says is “normal”?
